It was the third year with Shen Han.
His first love got divorced.
On a rainy night, I had a fever of 39 degrees, but he brought her home.
"Wen Wan, it's over between us."
"I've waited long enough for her."
That night, I dragged my exhausted body, packed all my luggage, and returned to that cold rented apartment.
"Gu Huai, it's been three years... Can you come back to see me?"
......
The wind squeezed through the cracks of the window, carrying a hoarse low sound like whimpering.
I curled up on the bed, feeling miserable.
I stared at the thermometer in my hand for a moment.
39.8 degrees.
So it was already that high.
The sound of unlocking suddenly rang out. I forced myself to climb out of bed.
Soon, the voices of Shen Han and a strange woman came from outside the door.
"Shen Han... This isn't right."
"What's not right, Miaomiao? I'm going to make it clear to her today."
The bedroom door was suddenly pushed open, slamming heavily against the wall with a loud bang.
Shen Han held a woman's hand and strode in.
"Wen Wan, it's over between us."
His face was dark as he stood by the bed, his tone cold without a hint of warmth.
I was stunned for a moment, then my gaze fell on the woman behind Shen Han.
It was Song Miao.
Shen Han's first love.
Looking at her, she did bear some resemblance to me.
I pulled the corner of my mouth and looked directly at him calmly.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean we're breaking up."
He pulled Song Miao tightly into his arms and said in a deep voice.
"After all these years, I've finally waited for her. So, Wen Wan, I admit you look a lot like her, but you're not her in the end..."
"Fine."
I interrupted him impatiently before he could finish.
Shen Han was stunned, seemingly unable to believe my reaction.
After all, in his mind, over these three years, all the efforts and feelings had been one-sided on my part.
He had only ever seen me as a substitute for Song Miao.
Never truly loved me.
I loved him so much, so logically, on the day he dumped me, I should have begged him, clung to him desperately.
Begged him not to leave me.
"Wen Wan, I can compensate you, but I can't let Song Miao down. So I hope you'll disappear from my life completely from now on."
I really didn't want to listen anymore. I got up, took out my suitcase from the wardrobe, and started packing without another word.
There were too many things; I threw all the irrelevant ones into the trash can.
Shen Han still stood motionless in front of me.
I picked up the suitcase and walked past him.
Suddenly, he grabbed my burning wrist.
"You have a fever?"
I endured the discomfort and pulled my hand away.
"Don't touch me. You disgust me."
I didn't look at him again and walked straight out the door.
Before closing the door, I heard Shen Han's angry voice behind me.
"Wen Wan, you'd better get lost and never let me see you again!"
He was right. Shen Han looked like him, but he wasn't him in the end.
I sighed and locked the door.
The rain was still pouring, and the dim streetlights flickered on and off.
I tilted my head back, letting the cold raindrops slide down my feverish cheeks.
The sky was overcast and gloomy.
