Chapter 3 Goodbye in the Ashes

When I tried to go back, I saw Pei Xiuzhi rushing out in a panic. I followed him all the way, only to find him at the entrance of a bar.

A white figure was squatting at the door, shoulders trembling from time to time.

But Pei Xiuzhi deliberately slowed his steps and walked over slowly.

Zhang Yaoyao looked up at Pei Xiuzhi with red eyes.

As they talked back and forth, I finally realized what had happened.

It turned out that Zhang Yaoyao's younger brother had hit someone with his car and needed to pay compensation, but Zhang Yaoyao had no money.

That's why she had come to beg Pei Xiuzhi.

"Senior, please help me. I'll pay you back later," she said.

Zhang Yaoyao was wearing a white dress, with red eyes and nose, looking like she was trying hard not to cry—such a "strong" appearance.

Pei Xiuzhi didn't think much after hearing her words and nodded in agreement.

I watched as Pei Xiuzhi transferred the money, and through my muddled state, I could faintly hear the words "Ping'an Street."

I felt a sense of déjà vu. Ping'an Street... it sounded so familiar.

I didn't think too much about it, just watched them walk side by side.

There was a faint sense of powerlessness in my heart.

We had been doing so well before—when did things start to change?

For a moment, I drifted into a daze. It was when Pei Xiuzhi's career was taking off, and mine was just starting.

He had told me to quit, saying he didn't want me to work so hard and show myself in public anymore.

From then on, I could just stay at home and be Mrs. Pei in peace.

Looking at his high-spirited face, at the way he was so eager to prove something, I agreed.

But that was the beginning of our breakdown.

Pei Xiuzhi's career flourished more and more, and he gradually became known as "President Pei" to others.

His attitude towards me didn't seem to change much.

But the moment Zhang Yaoyao appeared,

things started to get out of our control.

That day, I went with Pei Xiuzhi to an celebration banquet.

It was the first time I saw Zhang Yaoyao.

She was a waitress at the KTV, and she served us drinks quietly and politely.

But I noticed her at first glance.

Because she looked so much like me when I was young.

The way she smiled while serving drinks, those thoughtful little gestures—

they made me feel a little uncomfortable.

Later, I went out to get some fresh air. When I came back, the private room was in chaos.

Zhang Yaoyao was trembling, wrapped in Pei Xiuzhi's coat, sobbing softly.

Pei Xiuzhi looked furious, and a man was lying on the floor, unconscious.

Later, I found out that Zhang Yaoyao had been harassed by a drunk man.

And Pei Xiuzhi had acted bravely to defend her.
